A sticking or clogged EGR valve is one of the most common causes of limp mode, rough running and black smoke on diesels and many petrols. We clean, repair and replace EGR valves and coolers in our Northampton workshop.
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system feeds some exhaust gas back into the engine to reduce emissions. Over time soot and oil build up, and the valve sticks open or closed, or the cooler blocks or leaks.
We test the valve, cooler, sensors and wiring to find the real fault, then clean or replace what's needed, and run the correct adaptations. A faulty EGR often causes DPF problems too, so we check both.

Often, yes. If the valve is just clogged with carbon, a thorough clean restores it. If the motor or position sensor has failed, it needs replacing. We'll tell you which before starting.
Frequently. A faulty EGR can cause extra soot, which blocks the DPF. We check both and can clean your DPF on our XTON DUAL AI machine at the same time.
No. Removing or blanking the EGR on a road vehicle is illegal in the UK and can fail the MOT. We repair the system properly.
